MAF in Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea (PNG) is home to one of MAF’s earliest operations, beginning in 1951. PNG’s rugged mountains, dense jungles and limited road infrastructure make accessing remote communities extremely challenging.

For countless people in these isolated areas, MAF provides a vital link to the outside world, offering life-saving support and opportunities for development.

With some of the most extreme terrain and unpredictable weather conditions globally, MAF pilots face immense challenges, yet their work serves as a lifeline for much of PNG’s rural population.

MAF in PNG is one of our largest programs, providing life-changing service for much of the rural population. Each year, MAF transports over 35,000 passengers in PNG, enabling medical personnel, teachers and aid workers to reach otherwise inaccessible regions.

MAF flights supply remote hospitals and schools with essential materials, facilitate community development by transporting goods like coffee and provide emergency evacuations in critical situations.

Additionally, MAF Technologies (formerly known as CRMF) operates a countrywide HF radio network, often the only communication link for remote communities. This network supports connectivity, training and access to critical resources, further enhancing MAF’s impact in PNG.

Together, these services address the unique challenges faced by isolated communities, ensuring access to medical care, education and essential support.

MAF Technologies also provides training and Biblical resources via radio and supplies MAF pilots with a Biblebox to carry with them.
