MAF in South Sudan
Since 1950, MAF has been a lifeline for the people of South Sudan, navigating decades of conflict, instability and challenging terrain to bring critical services to isolated communities.
South Sudan, with over 11 million residents, has faced prolonged conflict, including two civil wars and ongoing internal strife. The country gained independence in 2011.
The nation’s vast grasslands, swamps and tropical rainforests pose significant logistical challenges, with many areas becoming impassable by road during the rainy season. Despite its wealth in natural resources, poverty remains widespread, clean drinking water is scarce and food insecurity is on the rise. South Sudan also has one of the highest maternal mortality rates globally, highlighting the critical need for accessible healthcare.
