MAF in Mozambique
Since 1999, MAF, known as Ambassador Aviation in Mozambique, has been serving the people of the country through vital aviation services.
MAF serves mission agencies, national churches, and NGOs, working with people groups such as the Makua, Makonde, Lomwe, Chuabo and Yao of northern Mozambique. With MAF’s help, humanitarian groups can more effectively help with environmental protection, literacy programs, and agricultural and rural development assistance.

Our Operation
Mozambique is a large African country in the southeast part of the continent. Although rich in natural resources, the tangible and intangible devastation from communist rule and civil wars in the 1990s was tragic.
Years of brutal civil war and extensive flooding in some regions, mean that Mozambique has barely 2,000 miles of reasonably paved roads.
For every 100 live births, six babies die before their first birthday, and the average income for each of Mozambique’s 31.7 million citizens is roughly $560 annually. The UN ranks Mozambique 183 out of 193 when measuring lifespan, access to knowledge, and standard of living.
To help overcome these challenges, 25 MAF staff operate one Cessna 206 and one Cessna 208B from their base in Nampula. MAF partners with over 40 mission agencies, national churches, and humanitarian organizations so they can minister in this former Portuguese colony.
A journey that formerly required three grueling days of travel by truck, now takes only hours or minutes by MAF aircraft, increasing the capacity for evangelism, Bible translation and support for struggling, indigenous churches.
