MAF in Madagascar

MAF has operated in Madagascar since 1989, serving remote communities through aviation. We serve over 80 local partners including churches, hospitals, missionaries, NGOs, and development and relief agencies who are working to provide access to healthcare, education, disaster relief and the Gospel to the isolated people of Madagascar.

Our Operation

While famous because of its biodiversity both in flora and fauna, its people are battered by tropical cyclones, limited by poverty, and have little access to healthcare. Madagascar is one of the poorest countries of the world, and the majority of the population lives on under $2 per day. With poor roads, torrential rains and destructive floods, many communities in the country are very difficult to access, and during the rainy season are completely inaccessible by road.

To overcome these challenges MAF operates one Cessna 208 and two Cessna 182 with 24 staff serving 88 partner organisations. A short flight saves days of arduous overland travel.

Church and mission organisations fly with us to take God’s love to those living in isolation – enabling them to receive primary healthcare, agricultural development, education, evangelistic outreach and disaster relief.

MAF aircraft have supported translation of the Jesus film into different Malagasy dialects, and medical safari teams provide physical healing and share the Gospel with isolated communities.
