The Story
Nevin grew up in Northern Ireland with a passion for flying, and dreamed as many young boys do of serving in the Royal Air Force. However, due to imperfect eyesight, he was unable to pursue this dream and instead completed an Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree.
Nevin enjoyed developing his skills and travelling the world over next the next 10 years as he worked in the field of Telecommunications. During this time, Nevin’s life took an unexpected turn after he became a follower of Jesus. In the years that followed, his childhood dream of flying was rekindled but this time with a Christian focus. With renewed passion, God made a way to turn this dream into a reality and so after spending a year at Bible school, he moved to the US to become a commercial pilot & aircraft mechanic.
Nevin’s love for aviation and his commitment to share the gospel had led him to join Wycliffe Bible Translators, and in 2008 he moved to the Philippines to gain maintenance experience with Wycliffe.
Whilst in the Philippines, God opened a door to gain some flight experience in Arnhem Land, and so in 2009 he was loaned to MAF where he served as a pilot in the Arnhem Land programme. For the next 8 years, Nevin flew tirelessly, providing essential air support to remote communities in Australia’s Northern Territory.
While on home assignment in 2012, Nevin met Diane at a Bible school retreat. Diane grew up in Leicestershire and became a Christian in her 20’s. Her background is in early childhood development, and she is in her element when she is caring for toddlers and preschoolers. She has known & supported MAF for several years. They were married in England in 2015 and God has blessed them with 2 children, both born in Arnhem Land.
In 2017, Nevin transitioned from pilot to a ground based role, and is currently the IT Manager where he enjoys maintaining the IT networks and doing anything technical. Nevin and Diane’s work with MAF reflects their deep commitment to serving others and sharing the light of Christ.
The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
