MAF in Timor-Lesté
Since 2007, MAF has been a vital presence in Timor-Leste, providing a lifeline for isolated communities through aviation. After decades of conflict and destruction following its independence referendum in 1999, Timor-Leste faced immense challenges, with much of its infrastructure destroyed and almost 40% of the population living in poverty.
MAF began its operations to support NGOs, church groups, and government organisations working to rebuild the nation. When the United Nations and peacekeeping forces withdrew in 2012, MAF stepped in to provide the country’s only air ambulance service.
Today, MAF is one of only two domestic air providers in Timor-Leste, committed to improving lives in one of the world’s most isolated nations.
