Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is an organisation using light aircraft to deliver help and hope in 26 developing countries. MAF transports patients, relief workers, produce and medical supplies to the world’s remotest regions and places of deepest human need – places where flying is not a luxury but a lifeline.
One of these places is Arnhem Land, a vast wilderness area in the northeast corner of Australia’s Northern Territory, defined by rocky escarpments, gorges, rivers and waterfalls. MAF has served the people in Arnhem Land for over 45 years by sharing God’s love through aviation and technology. To continue enabling our service in Arnhem Land we require a Operations Manager.

In this role, you will work closely with the Country Director to manage the ground and flight support systems and associated staff. As our Operations Manager, you will be responsible for managing operations, improving efficiency, and ensuring seamless customer experiences. As Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of MAF’s operations, including logistics, fleet management, maintenance, and compliance. You will work closely with our pilots, engineers, and support staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations that support our mission of bringing help and hope to isolated communities around the world.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage all aspects of daily operations, including logistics, procurement, fleet management, maintenance, and compliance.
Develop and implement strategies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Ensure compliance with aviation regulations and safety standards
Track and maintain records of equipment and fleet maintenance.
Manage and mentor a team of pilots, engineers, and support staff.
Provide leadership and guidance to the operations team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure all operational needs are met.
Develop and manage operational budgets and monitor expenses.
Identify and address any operational issues or challenges as they arise.
You will have excellent communications skills and will use these to maintain good relationship with customers and stakeholders to ensure that MAF’s operations are customer-focused and prioritised according to ministry effectiveness. In addition, you will be managing the operations team to ensure MAF standards and procedures are applied across operations in Arnhem Land. The successful candidate will need to be methodical, able to follow procedures and instructions precisely, and work well independently and as part of a team. Additionally, they need to possess excellent leadership abilities, be level-headed, observant, open-minded and resourceful.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential:
Year 12 graduate
Minimum two year experience in aviation operations or related field
Management and leadership experience
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Desirable:
Management or Business Diploma
