General Manager (Aviation), PNG
Overview
MAF operates in Papua New Guinea, which is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. Only 18 percent of its population live in urban centres. The majority live in very remote areas with little or no transportation options. MAF PNG is one of our biggest programs where we support local infrastructure and logistics surrounding missions. From life-saving medical evacuations to transporting essential supplies. MAF transforms the lives of the people of this country physically and spiritually.
Our PNG Program is seeking a dedicated and experienced General Manager (Aviation) to serve as the legal Accountable Manager in accordance with CAR Part 119. This role is pivotal in assisting the Country Director in achieving MAF’s vision, values, and strategic plans as outlined in the ministry plan for Papua New Guinea. You will oversee the functions and operations covered by CAR Part 119 and Part 145, ensuring compliance and excellence in aviation standards.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities of oversight include:
Leadership & Accountability: Lead and ensure all aviation activities are legally compliant and properly resourced.
Airworthiness: Oversee the airworthiness of the MAF PNG fleet.
Safety & Quality Management: Implement and maintain the Safety and Quality Management System (QSMS) and promote a strong safety culture.
Budget Management: Manage the aviation operations budget, ensuring financial accountability.
Performance Monitoring: Set and monitor key performance indicators to enhance operational efficiency.
Strategic Development: Develop and implement strategies for achieving short, medium, and long-term goals.
Change Management: Manage the impact of changes effectively.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate operational, legal, and financial risks.
Team Development: Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development for the aviation operations leadership team.
Cross-Departmental Coordination: Ensure effective communication and cooperation between operational departments.
Industry Collaboration: Work with customer service, finance, and other key stakeholders to enhance operations and maintain industry relationships.
Mission Partnerships: Build relationships with mission and aviation organizations to improve operational knowledge and efficiencies.
Airstrip Liaison: Coordinate with airstrip operators or owners regarding standards and maintenance.
Deputising: Serve as the Country Director when needed
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Job related role essentials:
Extensive experience in aviation management, preferably within a mission or non-profit organization.
Strong understanding of CAR Part 119 and Part 145 regulations.
Proven leadership and team development skills.
Excellent financial acumen and budget management experience.
Strong communication and collaborative skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage risks and implement safety and quality management systems.
