An unexpected Gift

Just over a week ago, MAF received a gift. A gift that will be able to help save countless lives.

This gift was the opportunity to purchase a second hand GA8 Airvan in great condition with low kilometres. The cost was significantly less than it would be to buy new and after careful and prayerful consideration, the decision was made to purchase it. The MAF engineers will be required to overhaul the aircraft for its specific required tasks but even with these costs considered, MAF has been able to save tens thousands of dollars.

As many of you would be aware, MAF has been working within Timor-Leste since 2006, helping to rebuild the nation that was devastated by the long fight for independence from Indonesian occupation. However, at the end of 2012, the UN and Australian forces that were part of this rebuild pulled out, taking their aircraft with them. This left one. It was MAF.

Jonathan Lowe and his family, recently joined by Mike and Jenni Bottrell are desperately trying to assist the many Timorese in need of emergency assistance. MAF is a lifeline, evacuating critically ill patients and delivering aid on behalf of the aid and development organisations in Timor Leste. At least 40% of the 1.2 million inhabitants of Timor-Leste are in dire need, living on less than 88 cents per day.

The GA8 Airvan is a perfect second aircraft for Timor Leste to help meet the needs of its people. It needs only a crew of 1 and can carry up to 7 people or 500kg of supplies. With its short take off and landing capabilities, it’s well suited to the rugged terrain of Timor. The dense bush and mountainous geography means to travel by roads is extremely difficult and almost impossible in the rainy season.

Now all that is needed, is to raise the funds so that this aircraft can be used to further the rebuilding of our neighbour. Gifts towards the aircraft are tax deductible so please partner with us and aid this new nation in reaching its full potential.
