Juvaniot & Juvanot’s Story
In a remote village in Madagascar, twin boys Juvaniot and Juvanot were born with bowed legs, a condition that would have become increasingly painful and debilitating as they grew older. There was no surgeon where they lived who could help them.
Their mother, Zara, walked for hours and travelled over rough roads simply to reach MAF’s plane. Then, in just over an hour, MAF flew the family to the Africa Mercy hospital ship, where the boys received the surgery they desperately needed.
Today, they are recovering well, with the hope of running, playing and living like other children. Every life-changing flight begins with fuel, helping families like Zara’s reach the care that can transform a child’s future.
The story of the snake bite
When a man in a remote village in Papua New Guinea was bitten by a highly venomous Death Adder while hunting, every minute counted. Without urgent treatment, his chances of survival were rapidly diminishing.
Thankfully, a MAF plane already out and about had enough fuel on board to divert from its planned route and fly to his village. Pilot Matt Kaye quickly reconfigured the plane to carry the critically ill patient on a stretcher before flying him to the nearest hospital with the anti-venom he desperately needed.
After safely delivering him into the care of medical staff, the plane was hand-refuelled and continued serving the other isolated communities planned.
For 75 years, MAF has been bringing help, hope and healing across Papua New Guinea. Every life-changing flight begins with fuel, making it possible to reach people when every second matters.
