The Story
I grew up on a small property near Orange NSW in a family of 4 and did not know what I wanted to do when I grew up. Even in high school when I found myself very interested in maths and science, I didn’t know what I would use these skills for. When I was 17, I had the opportunity to fly in a small aircraft as a part of an event encouraging women to join aviation. From this amazing experience of getting to control the plane and see the world from a different perspective I knew I wanted to be a pilot.
Around the same time, I went on a 2-week mission trip to Sri Lanka with my school. My eyes were opened to a whole new world. I got to see how privileged I was growing up and how small actions can make such a massive difference in others’ lives. I loved the mission trip and wanted to do more for people in need, however I thought I was going to have to be a teacher or a nurse to do that which was not for me.
I went on to complete my flight training with FTA Queensland in 2021. I learnt about MAF shortly after. I was surprised that an organisation existed that used flying to do mission work around the world. This felt like God bringing my passions and skills together.
At the start of 2022 I joined MAF in a missionary experience placement role, working as a reservations officer in Arnhem Land. This experience opened my eyes to the MAF Community and the Arnhem Land way of life. After a few months in program, I felt called to stay in Arnhem Land and become a pilot with MAF; it feels like home.
I see the amazing work our pilots do every day, and I am excited to build relationships with the people I will fly around. I look forward to seeing God continue to work in my life.
Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”
