A Little note

Jesus in the centre: A reminder that Jesus hasn’t moved even when life feels like He has
Recently, I had the opportunity to spend a few days in Oslo. After a 24-hour journey, my husband and I arrived bleary-eyed at 7am and wandered the city waiting for our check-in time later in the afternoon. We were pretty tired!
After lunch, we continued wandering and were intrigued when we heard loud, live music drifting through the city. At first, we thought it was just another street performance, but as we got closer, something about it felt different. Even though it wasn’t in English, we both sensed that it was worship. You know that feeling when your spirit recognises something before your brain does? That was it.
Eventually, we came to a big open square where a group of churches had set up a stage for a worship event called “Jesus in the Centre.” And there it was – right in the middle of a busy, modern city, a group of believers rehearsing for a concert later that night and declaring that Jesus still matters. That He still changes lives. That He still belongs in the centre of everything.
At night, we went back – despite running on very little sleep – we just had to join, the more than 2,000 people worshipping together under the open sky. Families, youth groups, people of all ages. It was amazing. It reminded me that God is always at work – even in places we might not expect.
And it made me think of the work MAF is doing too. In so many ways, the small teams scattered across remote corners of the world are doing the same thing: keeping Jesus at the centre. Whether it’s flying a medevac flight in Timor-Leste, delivering school materials in Papua New Guinea, or bringing students to school in Arnhem Land – it’s all about helping people see that Jesus hasn’t forgotten them. That He’s still here. Still close. Still holding things together. And that’s something I’ve needed reminding of lately too. Life’s been a bit hard in recent weeks. Nothing dramatic – just the usual mix of challenges, decisions and general heaviness. You probably know the feeling.
It’s easy in those moments for Jesus to slip to the sidelines while we try to handle everything ourselves. But when we stop and put Him back where He belongs – in the centre – we remember we’re not holding everything together on our own. He is.
Colossians 1:17 (NIV) says: “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
What a promise. Not just for the world out there, but for each of us – right in the middle of our ordinary, messy, stretched-thin lives.
So, wherever this finds you today, I hope it encourages you like it encouraged me: Jesus is still at the centre. Of cities. Of outback airstrips. Of isolated clinics. Of busy homes. Of tired hearts. And He’s holding you together, even now.
Thanks for praying and standing with us as we serve with MAF.
