Quality, Safety & Security Central Support Manager- Uganda

Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is an organisation using light aircraft to deliver help and hope in over 30 developing countries. For over 75 years, MAF has been transporting patients, relief workers, produce and medical supplies to the world’s remotest regions and places of deepest human need – places where flying is not a luxury but a lifeline.

We have a new opportunity for a Quality Safety Security (QSS) Central Support Manager which will play a key part in the development of Quality and Safety systems in MAF. You will be engaged in guiding and co-ordinating the strategic direction of the Quality Management System and managing the global audit programme. You will also be providing remote support to the Safety Management System (SMS) Manager based in Cairns.

In this role you will be collecting and analysing quality and safety data, identifying trends and developing innovative ways to make MAF more agile, efficient, and safe. You will provide central co-ordination and analysis for information gathered in specialist areas, such as flight and technical operations. There will be opportunity to develop the quality management and auditing in other areas of the organisation.

You will liaise with the Digital Business Partner to improve reporting, analysis of data and eventual replacement of current Quality Safety Management System (QSMS) database system. In addition, your will have a key role in the development of Safety and Quality promotion.


In this role you will be responsible for providing Safety and Quality leadership, through building strong relationships with the programmes, Quality and Safety Managers, liaising with other MAF groups and working collaboratively with the QSS team.
This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and experience to identify relevant data, trends and identify issues and solutions, writing reports and technical documentation to the CEO/COO on safety issues.
In addition, you will pro-actively support the QSMS systems through the coaching and training of staff.
Other duties will require strong leadership qualities in helping the SMS manager to facilitate the International Safety Action Group and where appropriate acting as MAFI Accident and Serious Incident Investigator.
Finally, you will also assist in the running of the Quality and Safety management systems in an African programme.
The role will initially be based in Africa (probably Uganda) and will provide additional QSS support to programmes in the region.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Bachelor degree level education (In aviation related or Quality/Safety engineering)
Formal training training in Quality Assurance and Safety management
Practical understanding and application of human factors
Minimum of 5 years experience in aviation related job (ideally in an international setting)
Extensive experience in development and management of Quality and/or Safety Management Systems
Strong data analysis and computer systems aptitude
Excellent relational and interpersonal skills
Experience of writing technical reports and promotional material


Experience of accident and serious incident investigations
Understanding and application of JUST culture
Working in a cross cultural environment
Has designed and delivered training (face to face and e-learning)
