Director of Technical Operations, Cairns/ Mareeba
Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is an organisation using light aircraft to deliver help and hope in over 30 developing countries. For over 75 years, MAF has been transporting patients, relief workers, produce and medical supplies to the world’s remotest regions and places of deepest human need – places where flying is not a luxury but a lifeline.
We have a new opportunity for a Director of Technical Operations to join the team. You will bring with you a vast amount of aviation management experience specifically in the area of technical operations.
You will lead a global team that will provide trained, competent, and informed technical operations staff that operate to common, agreed standards across MAF International (MAF I) so it is key that you can communicate clearly across geographic and cultural boundaries.
Your focus will be to facilitate the safe, legal, reliable, efficient and effective delivery of technical operations whilst demonstrating leadership in accordance with MAF core values.
The Director of Technical Operations will be responsible for fleet and technical operations strategy and be a member of the Operations Leadership Team (‘OLT’).
The role will include providing strategic leadership and oversight to the development, implementation, and review of technical (engineering, fleet, maintenance and continued airworthiness) operational standards, practice and project management for MAFI.
You will take the operational lead on matters related to technical operations and support, in all programmes, and the development of new operational programmes. You will ensure these are compliant, fit-for-purpose and enable the achievement of our vision and mission along with strategic plans.
You will actively engage in the Operations Leadership Team by building a strong working relationship between the technical operations team and other core operational and support functions across the MAF family.
You will lead the strategic planning on management, development and suitability of the MAFI fleet to meet the needs of the operational programmes, including the purchase, upgrade, sale and transition of aircraft.
Working closely with the Digital Business Partner you will enhance the transparency and availability of key information to enable better decision making on the local level while aligning with global strategies.
As this role will be participating in the overall management of the organisation you will need to establish positive relationships with all Country Directors, programmes and ‘Executive Leadership Team’ (ELT), attend the Board Flight Safety Committee meeting as required and participate in the organisations budgetary process and overseeing the Technical Operations budgets.
You will develop relationships and forums across the MAF family to share best practices and engage with the wider aviation and technology industries to ensure MAFI follows best practice and acts as leader in the field of mission and remote technical support operations as well as technical R & D.
