Building and Maintenance Assistant, PNG
Are you passionate about building things and want to use your skills to support the work of MAF in PNG?
MAF is seeking an experienced Building Maintenance and Projects Assistant to assist with the nationwide MAF-PNG Building Maintenance Program. You will assist with ongoing and future construction projects and revise and update the vehicle fleet register. You will also be expected to cover for the Building Maintenance and Projects Manager in their absence.
Your duties will include ensuring that tradespeople are adequately trained, managing contracts with local suppliers, preparing property budgets, arranging building plans and ensuring all work complies with appropriate regulations.

Responsibilities
Full role specification:
To assist the Building Maintenance and Projects Manager by:
- Providing effective training and advice in the area of building construction and maintenance to the employees of this, and related department
- Helping to regularly revise and update Building Maintenance Program and Vehicle Fleet Register
- The preparation of the annual Property and Vehicle Department Budget, in consultation with the Building Maintenance and Projects Manager
- Working together to adjust programs/projects to meet the approved budgets
- Having a resourceful and cost-effective approach to sourcing materials
- Ensuring all work complies with appropriate regulations and that staff demonstrate safe work practices and comply with MAF Safety Policies
- Arranging building plans for local authorities as appropriate and as requested by Building Maintenance and Projects Manager
- Providing hands-on and pro-active supervision of staff and progress of jobs
- Maintaining good working relationships with the Building Maintenance and Projects Manager, staff and customers with whom he/she regularly comes into contact and equipment and service providers
- Displaying a high level of emotional resourcefulness when dealing with staff and supply companies
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Tertiary or Trade Qualification in a building industry skill
- Professional qualification in a building industry skill
- Proven track record in building construction and/or maintenance
- Organised, methodical and responsible
Desirable:
- Cross-cultural experience
- Good communication and information-handling skills
