Asia-Pacific Regional Communications Manager – Cairns
MAF serves in 37 countries with around 130 aircraft reaching some of the most remote places in the world. We bring new hope to families and communities that are trying to make a daily living. It is our desire to see these areas transformed to bring about a brighter tomorrow. MAF transports patients, relief workers, produce and medical supplies to the world’s remotest regions and places of deepest human need – places where flying is not a luxury but a lifeline.
Mission Aviation Fellowship is an international Christian organisation whose mission, for more than 75 years, has been to fly light aircraft, and to use other technologies to bring help and hope to people in some of the world’s poorest communities. On a normal day, every four minutes a MAF plane is taking off or landing somewhere in the world to assist missions, churches, aid and development agencies, and other local groups to transform lives and share the love of God. It may be a medical evaluation, or a cargo full of coffee beans helping bring micro-enterprise opportunities, but all contribute to overcoming the barriers of isolation to “fly for life” in the fullest sense of the term.
To continue this work, and take it further, we are looking for a team player to lead communications activity across our Asia Pacific region. The successful candidate will have strong communication and people skills, and be able to sensitively work cross-culturally. Based in our Queensland office, you will be working remotely from the wider communications team which will require initiative and flexibility to build strong, effective relationships at a distance, and to be a positive influence within our global communications team.
With the rapidly evolving global communication environment, and competition in the funding arena, MAF International is seeking to strengthen and develop its communications activity in capturing dynamic and engaging material about the transformational impact our services are having for isolated communities.
In this role, you will oversee and coordinate regional communications activities including staff management, story gathering, social media planning, press releases, facilitating media interviews and TV crew visits. You will need a flexible approach to the working pattern as you liaise with other members of the Communications Team based in the UK.
You will also need to provide media content and communications support to regional programs that do not have a communications officer. This may include some travel for both research trips and disaster response events, to gather information, stories, imagery and film.
Other responsibilities include website and social media content management, ensuring compliance with data protection requirements, promoting ethical story gathering across the Asia Pacific region, asset management of the digital library. All while ensuring you continue to develop MAFs positive image and reputation.
As MAF is a Christian mission organisation, you will have a key role in the spiritual leadership and pastoral oversight according to the ethos, beliefs and values of MAF. An essential part of this will be the leading of biblical reflection, prayer meetings and mentoring colleagues, inspiring and encouraging the multi-national/multi-denominational/multi-cultural team to flourish.
