MAF Pilot Brad Venter was preparing for a a full day's program when he was alerted to a medevac need in Goroka, PNG. A women retained placenta after giving birth and was in critical need of medical attention.
On landing, the people in the village brought her to the aircraft on a well-made bamboo stretcher. While I loaded her into the aircraft, Sarah was able to do another airstrip survey.
Rest of story if we think it appropriate.
This is fast becoming an urgent need for the team in PNG. The old systems in the two aircraft are increasingly obsolete and are a source of significant challenges in maintenance and certification.
We urgently need to raise at least $150,000AUD, which is the cost required to refurbish one aircraft.
A new hangar is urgently needed in Mareeba.

Continue their legacy
Every MAF aircraft tells a story of lives changed – families evacuated in emergencies, patients flown to hospital, children taken to school, essential supplies delivered, and the gospel reaching places it never could on foot.
Four faithful MAF aircraft are retiring – after decades of service in Papua New Guinea, Arnhem Land, Madagascar and South Sudan.
The work of these good and faithful servants is complete. But the mission continues. Your support can help launch the next aircraft – bringing help, hope and healing to more people in isolated communities.
Some of MAF’s planes are over 30 years old. The older they get, the more time they spend grounded, slowing emergency responses and stretching resources.
Renewal is already underway
MAF’s global fleet renewal is in motion.
6 of 16 new aircraft have been purchased. 4 of 12 retiring aircraft have completed service. But the need is still great.
Australia’s part in the global effort
This year we’re aiming to raise $1 million by June 30 through generous Australian supporters. Your gift can help bridge the gap and keep the mission flying strong.
Why your support is crucial
A lifeline for Jayson’s community
When P2-MAF landed in Dusin, Papua New Guinea, the crowd cheered. On board were building supplies for a new health centre - and when it departed Dusin later, it carried 2,700 kg of coffee out of the mountains, bound for market.
That coffee is Dusin’s lifeline. Without the plane, it would spoil during the three-day trek out on foot.
“We only move by plane,” said local villager Jayson Chris. “Otherwise it takes three days to walk out of Dusin.”
Flights like this kept families fed, kids in school, and lifesaving medical care within reach.
Now, that faithful aircraft has retired. But together, we can keep reaching people like Jayson — so the mission of MAF continues, even after planes like P2-MAF retire.
